We at Areff has developed an app with RFID to facilitate the handling of drill bits.

LKAB Wassara Wassara AB was founded in 1988 and is 100% owned by LKAB. The company develops and manufactures water-powered drilling systems with very high performance for all types of drilling projects both above-ground beneath the ground. LKAB is an international high-tech minerals group, the world’s leading producers of upgraded iron ore products for the steel industry and a growing supplier of mineral products to other industrial markets. The main markets are Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. LKAB employs over 4400 people around the world.

In the spring of 2016 turned LKAB Wassara AB Areff to develop and evaluate a marking system of the company’s drill bits. In the product’s life cycle includes a variety of inspection and grinding of the drill bit to maximize its performance. Historically, the management of the individual drill bit maintenance has been difficult, partly because. To date use permanent methods have worked when the label is worn away during use and partly due. it has lacked a comprehensive tool for managing data from the maintenance and testing of the drill bits. Our solution was the creation of a special RFID tag, embedded in the drill bit and a specially developed App, Drillbit on a tablet with a wireless RFID reader. With RFID reader identifies the drill bit easily and through the app as presented tag’s history as well as new maintenance and inspection of the drill bit can be recorded.
